SCIENCE DAY
This is a day dedicated to bringing science from a variety of different disciplines to our students from presenters (ranging from parents to community
volunteers). Our students look forward to this day each year and we hope that you will consider volunteering to present a program to our
students this year. The program will be held on Friday November 9th. Attached is a letter with more details regarding the length of the
programs and the times of the events at our various schools. Please thoughtfully consider volunteering and contact Linda Bowers at linda.l.bowers@gmail.com with any questions.
Science Day will be Friday November 9th
At Middletown (Kindergarten), each class will rotate to four classroom presentations including either ‘Reptiles’ or ‘Winter Animals’ provided by Anita Purves Nature Center. Both Sangamon (1st and 2nd grades) and Lincoln Trail (3rd through 5th grades) will rotate to three classroom presentations AND attend a school wide assembly. The assembly at Sangamon will be provided by ‘Mad Science’ and at Lincoln Trail will be provided by ‘Rockin’ Science. We are looking for volunteer Guest Speakers and Classroom Assistants. We would like presenters to demonstrate an experiment or bring science equipment or samples (fossils, insects, etc) for the classes to examine. The more hands on the better! We need guest speakers for ALL grades (Kindergarten through 5th grade). We have ideas if you are willing to lead the classes and will reimburse you up to $50 for expenses for materials used in your presentation.
At Middletown the presentations will be 20 minutes long, and we ask that you repeat the presentation four times during the morning and/or afternoon session(s). There are 20-25 students in each class. The morning session runs from 8:30-10:45am and the afternoon session runs from 12:30-2:45pm and any additional time necessary to set up your class.
At Sangamon and Lincoln Trail each classroom presentation will be about 18 minutes long, and we ask that you repeat the presentation six times. There are 20-25 students in each class. The classroom presentations are from 12:30-2:50pm and any additional time necessary to set up your class.
Classroom assistants will help presenters find their classrooms and assist in passing out materials needed by presenters as well as being a second set of hands to assist students in the programs.
If you are interested in volunteering for Science Day or would like more information, please contact Linda Bowers at linda.l.bowers@gmail.com. Thank you for your time and consideration.
